Senior Updates – 13th January 2019

I’ll keep it short and sweet as it’s been a long day with 2 seniors games on. With the B’s and the youth’s off this weekend it was the A’s and C’s in action at home on our grass pitch which was in good shape today (thanks Batty)…the A’s were in action this morning in the 1st round of the Greyhound bar cup against last years rivals Mitchell’s. After making the Semi-finals last year narrowly going out to Killarney Athletic Gerry Kelliher’s men are hungry for more cups this year and even though Mitchell’s are playing a division above Killorglin it was the home team that dominated most of the game. Not too many chances in the 1st half probably closest was Killorglin’s Audie Dunlea with a great strike which took a fine save from the Mitchell’s keeper…the game finished 2-0 to the home side with both goals coming in the 2nd half…in form Dan Whittleton with the 1st a fine headed finish from a Lee Carey free. The 2nd a great move involving Dan Whittleton, Lee Carey and a clever step over from Tommy Cahill and Audie Dunlea again with a great strike no chance for the Mitchell’s keeper this time. So Killorglin into the next round and that’s 3 clean sheets in a row for T. Lyons in the Killorglin goals (I know ear plugs will be supplied for training Tuesday night)

The C’s were in action after that at home to Brandon in the 2nd game of the afternoon…still awaiting that 1st win of the league campaign. To be fair Killorglin gave a fantastic account of themselves and even though they were 2-0 down at the break were still giving Brandon plenty to do and were right back in the game when Aiden O’Sullivan was brought down in the box…Sheazo cooly tucked away the penalty and should have been stepping up to the spot a couple minutes later when O’Sullivan looked to be taken down for a 2nd time but the ref saw different. Brandon went 3-1 up but Ryan O’Riordan had Killorglin right back in it with a great finish from a Sheazo free ball. Killorglin created a number of chances but unfortunately it was the away team that scored again…with the home side throwing everything including the kitchen sink at Brandon they were caught late on again…the game eventually finishing 6-2 to Brandon but with the game 3-2 with 10 mins to go definitely Killorglin can feel hard done by. A great atmosphere though and the game played in great spirit…I’m always slow to give out individual accolades as this is a team game and i’ll probably pay for this one but have to give a mention to Aiden O’Sullivan for a fantastic performance and his tireless running (good stuff Nat.)
